SCREENS
Adding and managing screens
Each physical display is registered as a screen in Skoop. You pair it with the app using a code shown on the display at first boot.
- Select "New screen": Click the new screen button in the top right corner of the screens view.
- Name the screen: Give it a descriptive name, such as the location or orientation (e.g. "North screen", "Lobby display").
- Enter the pairing code: The pairing code is shown on the display the first time you boot up the Skoop app on that device.
- Save: Hit save. The screen is now registered in your account.
After adding a screen, see the sections below on creating playlists and assigning content to screens.
Scheduling screen on/off times
Set your screens to turn on and off automatically so they match your business hours without any manual intervention.
- Find the screen: Scroll to the screen you want to program on the screens tab.
- Open the edit view: Click the pencil icon next to the screen.
- Set the on time: Scroll to the "Screen on time" field and enter your desired time. To have screens ready before you open, set the on time slightly earlier than your opening hour. For example, if you open at 10:00 AM, set the on time to 9:50 AM.
- Set the off time: Scroll to the "Screen off time" field. If you want screens to stay on briefly after closing for any remaining customers, set the off time a few minutes after close.
- Save: Hit save. The schedule is now active for that screen.
PLAYLISTS
Creating a playlist
Playlists are the containers for your content. You build a playlist, then assign it to one or more screens.
Create the playlist
- Go to the Playlists tab: Select the playlists tab from the left sidebar menu.
- Create a new playlist: Click the "New playlist" button and give it a name. Hit save.
Add content
- Open the playlist: Select the playlist you just created to start adding content.
- Choose a content type: On the right side of the screen you'll see all available content types: media files, websites, YouTube videos, ad slots, and more.
- Add media files: Select the media files option, hit the plus button, and upload content from your computer. Once uploaded, you'll get a success message in the top right corner.
- Drag items into the playlist: Drag the uploaded items into the playlist order. Set how long you want each item to play.
Publish
- Hit Publish: When you're done editing, click the publish button. Always publish after making any changes to a playlist.
Any changes to a playlist only take effect on your screens after you hit publish.
Assigning a playlist to a screen
Once a playlist is created, assign it to one or more screens. The same playlist can run on an unlimited number of screens.
- Go to the Screens tab: Navigate back to the screens tab.
- Open the screen settings: Find the screen you want to update and click the pencil icon.
- Select the playlist: Scroll to the playlists section and choose the playlist you want to run on this screen from the dropdown.
- Save: Hit save. That screen will now play the selected playlist.
To run the same playlist on additional screens, open each screen's edit view, select the playlist from the dropdown, and save.
Scheduling content within a playlist
Set individual content items to appear only during specific date ranges, then automatically drop out of the loop.
- Open the playlist: Go to the playlists tab and select the playlist you want to edit.
- Tap "Schedule now" on a content item: Each image or video in the playlist has a "Schedule now" button. Tap it to open the calendar.
- Set the start date: Select the date you want the content to begin playing.
- Set the end date: Select the date you want the content to stop playing. It will run through the end of that day.
- Save and publish: Hit save, then the publish button when all scheduling is done.
To clear a schedule from a content item, click the X icon on that item to remove the dates. Then republish.
Duplicating playlists and adding transitions
Duplicate a playlist
- Find the playlist: Go to the playlists tab and select the one you want to duplicate.
- Click the duplicate icon: Look for the duplication icon next to the trash can icon.
- Rename the copy: Give the new playlist a distinct name, then hit save. Skoop will take you directly into the new duplicate playlist.
Add transitions
- Choose a transition type: Inside the playlist, select a transition style from the dropdown. Transitions control how content changes on screen as each item plays.
- Publish: Hit the publish button when done.
The fade transition gives a smooth, professional look between content items.
MONETIZATION
Adding ad slots to a playlist
Ad slots let you reserve space in your playlist loop for paid advertisers. The industry standard for digital billboards is 8 ad slots per loop.
Add ad slots to a playlist
- Open the playlist: Select the playlist where you want to add ad slots.
- Click the ad slot icon: Select the add slot icon in the content type options.
- Add the number of slots you need: Tap the "Add ad slot" button once for each slot you want (e.g. 8 times for 8 slots).
- Name each slot and set duration: Give each slot a name and set the duration (10 seconds is standard).
- Publish: Hit publish when done.
Enable ad space for sale on a screen
- Go to the screen settings: Navigate to the screen where this playlist is assigned and open the edit view.
- Toggle on "Ad space for sale": Enable the ad space toggle to make the slots available for advertisers.
- Set the daily rate: Enter the daily cost you want to charge advertisers (e.g. $35 per day per screen).
- Save: Hit save. The screen's ad slots are now priced and available.
CONTENT TYPES
Adding web slots (websites)
Web slots let you display any live website in your playlist. Common uses include Google Calendar links, room schedules, employee shift schedules, or any web-based content you want to show on screen.
- Open the playlist: Go to the playlist you want to add the web slot to.
- Select the website icon: Click the website content type icon and hit the plus button.
- Enter the URL: Click the pencil icon on the new item and paste in the website URL you want to display.
- Name it and set duration: Give the item a name and set how long you want it to display (e.g. 15 seconds).
- Schedule (optional): Leave the schedule fields empty to run indefinitely, or set start and end dates to run only during a specific window.
- Save and publish: Hit save on the item, then publish when done editing.
Adding YouTube videos
- Open the playlist: Select the playlist where you want the video to appear.
- Select the YouTube icon: Click the YouTube content type icon and hit the plus button.
- Paste the YouTube URL: Go to the YouTube video, hit the share button, copy the URL, and paste it into the field in Skoop.
- Title the item: Give the video a name so it's easy to identify in your playlist.
- Configure subtitles and sound: Toggle subtitles off if you don't want them on screen. Toggle sound off if the display is in a space where audio isn't appropriate.
- Save and arrange: Hit save, then drag the video into position in your playlist.
- Set the duration and publish: Set the duration to match the video length (e.g. 60 seconds for a 1-minute video). Hit publish when done.
ACCOUNT
Adding users to your account
Invite team members to access your account with either full edit access or read-only oversight.
The person you're adding needs a Skoop account first. They can sign up at app.skoop.digital by choosing "Sign up" instead of "Sign in."
- Go to Users: Open the left sidebar menu and select "Users."
- Add a new user: Click the "Add new user" button.
- Search by email: Enter the email address the person used when creating their Skoop account. If they have an account, they'll appear in the results.
- Choose an access level: Edit access lets the user add and delete screens, modify playlists, and manage the account. Read-only access gives them visibility without the ability to make changes.
- Set screen access: Choose whether the user can access all of your screens or only specific ones.
- Save: Hit save. The user will have access according to the permissions you set.
Adding a payment method
- Go to Billing: Open the left sidebar menu and select "Billing."
- Enter your card details: Enter the name on the card, the card number, the expiration date, and the three-digit security code on the back.
- Save: Hit save. Your payment method is now on file.
